Research Fellow – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

University of Surrey • Temps plein

Nov 2023 - Mar 20251 yr 4 mos

From 2010 to 2025, I held research and academic positions at multiple prominent UK universities, including the University of Surrey, University of Warwick (WMG), Liverpool John Moores University, University of Huddersfield, University of Strathclyde, University of Aberdeen/Durham University, Birmingham City University and University of South Wales. At Surrey, I worked on a DSTL-funded Data Resilience project, developing novel AI/ML methods for anomaly detection and trust assessment in crowdsourced geospatial data, including Isolation Forest and neural-network-based predictors. Across my wider UK research career, I developed and applied machine learning, artificial neural networks, statistical modelling, anomaly detection, NLP, data anonymisation, Differential Privacy, Federated Learning, web crawling, information retrieval, and optimisation to real-world problems. My research covered cybersecurity and critical infrastructure, cyber-physical systems, maritime logistics, telecommunications, medical decision support and large-scale data analysis. Projects were funded by organisations including DSTL, the European Commission, British Council/Newton Fund and Technology Strategy Board, with industry and clinical collaboration including Hewlett Packard, National Grid and University Hospital of Wales. I also served as Lecturer in Big Data Analytics at Birmingham City University, teaching Machine Learning, Data Mining and Business Intelligence and supervising research. My work has produced internationally published research, including several highly cited papers, and combines rigorous academic research with practical AI, machine learning, data science and analytical problem-solving.
