She did exactly what she was asked — five sittings, worked the daily exercises, no copy editing — and every finding was located to a week and a sentence. She caught a real omission, gave you a rule instead of a list of notes, and named what to protect.

Clara has read for me across several books now. She names the mechanism, not just the symptom — not only that her attention slipped, but that a reflection had stepped out of the room to explain what the scene already showed. And she is more apt to tell me where I moved off something too soon than to tell me what to cut.
