I completed my internship at the Communication & Works (C&W) Department, where I gained practical experience in civil engineering fieldwork, office documentation, and technical drawing. During my internship, I worked closely with senior engineers, sub-engineers, and site supervisors to understand the execution and management of public sector construction projects. My major responsibilities included assisting in the preparation and reviewing of 2D drawings using AutoCAD. I helped in drafting building layouts, road sections, and structural details according to project requirements. I also supported engineers in making corrections and updates to drawings based on site conditions. On-site, I observed and participated in construction activities such as measurement of quantities, checking levels, monitoring concrete work, brick masonry, plastering, and road construction processes. This helped me understand practical implementation of drawings and specifications. I was also involved in quantity surveying tasks, including taking measurements from drawings and site, preparing basic cost estimates, and assisting in BOQ (Bill of Quantities) preparation. I learned how to calculate material quantities such as cement, steel, sand, crush, and bricks accurately. Additionally, I gained knowledge about: Tender documents and contract procedures Project planning and progress monitoring Quality control and safety measures on construction sites Record keeping and official documentation This internship enhanced my technical drawing skills, estimation abilities, and understanding of real-world construction practices. It also improved my teamwork, communication skills, and professional confidence in handling civil engineering projects
