Assisted Dr. Jim Lutz in teaching Western Forest Plants: Identification and Function as an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow. Held Labs and Study sessions to help students learn Latin names and botany terms to describe the 144 plants in the class. Organized and helped create herbarium-quality dried mounts of the plants. Helped students understand the ecological role of each plant in the class.

Research Lab Assistant for the Western Forest Initiative

Worked on design and completion of a book describing plants and pathogens of each forest dynamics plot the lab has worked in. Previously assisted in checking and entering data in excel that was recorded during the field season, making sure it is accurate for analysis and participated in carbon storage research by sorting fuels collected from the forest dynamics plots and recording data in excel.

Summer Field Technician for the Western Forest Initiative

Worked alongside a crew to take a census and mortality survey of all trees in three different forest dynamics plots in the Western US. Used specialized equipment to record data. Correctly identified all woody stemmed plants and shrubs in plots. Diagnosed forest pathogens in the field. Recorded exact location of newly recruited trees and fallen wood using orienteering skills. Hiked several miles carrying gear to the jobsite each day.
