Freelance Book Formatter & KDP Publishing Specialist
Jun 2026 - Present • 4 mos
As a freelance book formatting and publishing specialist, I prepare manuscripts for Amazon KDP and other self publishing platforms, handling both the technical and quality control side of getting a book upload-ready. Core responsibilities: - Format manuscripts into clean, validated EPUB files for kindle ebook formatting, replacing outdated MOBI workflows - Prepare print ready PDF interiors for paperback and hardcover formatting, with correct trim size, margins, and bleed - Build clickable tables of contents, consistent chapter styling, and KDP compliant interior layouts - Diagnose and resolve KDP upload rejections by identifying the root cause in the source file rather than resubmitting blind - Handle childrens book formatting with image-safe margin and layout requirements - Perform light manuscript editing passes (typos, structural consistency) ahead of formatting - [Add: "Formatted [X] manuscripts across fiction and non-fiction genres" only if you have a real number] - [Add: "Worked with authors publishing on [platforms]" only if true] Tools: [list what you actually use e.g. Adobe InDesign, Kindle Create, Calibre, Vellum, Atticus]
Self-Employed Book Formatting & Ebook Publishing
Mar 2026 - Present • 7 mos
I've worked as a freelance book formatter, preparing manuscripts for self published authors publishing through Amazon KDP. My work covers the full formatting process: converting manuscripts into clean EPUB files for kindle ebook formatting, building print ready interiors for paperback and hardcover formatting with correct trim size and bleed, and setting up clickable tables of contents and consistent chapter styling throughout. I've completed 5 book formatting and editing projects to date, spanning fiction and non fiction manuscripts. Part of that work involves troubleshooting KDP upload rejections tracing the issue back to the source file instead of resubmitting and hoping it clears. Alongside formatting, I handle light manuscript editing (typos, consistency checks) so files are clean before layout begins.
