Audio post-production for an investigative documentary series on YouTube (for a channel with 85k+ subscribers). The client needed a very specific "sonic signature"— psychological, "biological-digital" dread inspired by films like Annihilation and Sicario. My role was essentially a hybrid of a score composer and a technical audio engineer. Here’s what we achieved together: Dialogue Restoration: Surgically repaired muffled and wind-distorted field audio (like outdoor kayaking scenes) using iZotope RX Custom Texture Design: I built custom soundscapes using low-end sub-bass pressure, descending pitch bends, and uncomfortable textures (like echoing camera shutters and subtle ticking clocks) to naturally build anxiety. Narrative Scoring: Composed intro and outro trailer sequences mapped perfectly to the video cuts. I utilized "negative space" and complete audio vacuum drops to create massive, psychological jump-scares. Broadcast Loudness: Engineered the mixes to meet streaming standards to achieve massive cinematic weight (-8 to -10 LUFS) without clipping the master. The Result: A collaborative process where we refined the sound to feel like a premium A24 psychological thriller, perfectly elevating the client's visual storytelling.
