I’m glad to share that my journey as an Article Student at Snehasish Mahmud & Co. (SMAC) — a proud member firm of DFK International — has been both enriching and practical so far. Working within the Center of Professional Services (CPS) team, I’ve been learning and applying various aspects of professional accounting practice. Key Responsibilities- a) Collecting and reconciling monthly transactional data, including bank statements and supporting documentation from clients. b) Computing and assessing statutory liabilities relating to TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) and VDS (VAT Deducted at Source) in accordance with prevailing tax regulations. c) Preparing detailed schedules of revenue and expenditures to support financial reporting and compliance requirements. d) Coordinating and facilitating clients in the timely settlement of their tax liabilities. e) Preparing and filing statutory returns, including VAT Returns, Form 177 (Withholding Tax Return), and FDI-related filings, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. f) Recording accounting entries and maintaining books of accounts in Tally to ensure proper financial documentation and audit readiness. This experience has helped me strengthen my foundation in taxation, compliance, and corporate reporting — bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world professional work. I’m looking forward to exploring more dimensions of audit, assurance, and consultancy services while continuing to grow under the guidance of experienced mentors at SMAC.
